Ipostudio Architects Srl is a private firm / an SME within the fields of architecture, design and research, which was established in 1982 in Florence. During almost 20 years of activity, Ipostudio has consolidated a design approach that, without compromising the objective of the architectural quality, keeps in mind the functional quality of the buildings, the use of innovative technologies, the environmental awareness, and the user needs.
Within his own activities of research and architectural design, Ipostudio has matured a vast experience in the sector of the planning of public buildings, especially healthcare and office facilities whose designs are energy-saving oriented based on the functional planning of the building and surrounding environment. A selection of hospital and health centre design projects: AOUC Careggi Hospital, Florence; Mazzolani-Vandini Hospital, Ferrara; Santa Fina Hospital Redevelopment, Siena; Carlo Vismara De Petri Institute, Cremona; Naldini-Torrigiani Ex-Hospital Extension, Tavarnelle Val Di Pesa; Health Centres in Prato, Siena, Modena, Ancona, Riva Del Garda.
Ipostudio has been actively participating in and jointly leading several European research projects from FP5, FP6, FP7, and INTERREG, namely: Brite Euram 4213, Ariadne, Brite Euram 4670, IFD, EBOB, SuRE-FIT, PROFICIENT.
Main roles in STREAMER
- Leader of WP1 on building and district typologies, and Task 2.2 on building envelope and spatial layout.
- Lead investigator in design studies based on a broad range of architectural and urban design experience.
- Researcher in design collaborative processes, semantic knowledge management and design ontologies, representing the roles of the architect.
- Contributor to the demonstration case and practical validation in the real project in Italy, and benchmarking at EU level.
- Active partner in knowledge dissemination, valorisation and standardisation in EeB design/engineering, especially making use of real design practice.
Key persons involved
- Prof. Roberto Di Giulio is an architect, PhD in "Technology of Architecture", Full Professor and Dean of the Department of Architecture at the University of Ferrara. He is a board member of Ipostudio where he is responsible for the firm’s research activities. His research covers a broad range of issues from studies of the industrialization of building process and building design methodologies to investigations on real estate maintenance and management. He has participated in and jointly led many EU research projects from FP4, FP5, FP6, FP7, H2020 and INTERREG. Coordinator of the H2020 research project “INCEPTION. Chairman of the Cost Action “TU0701 – Improving the Quality of Suburban Building Stocks". Member and Chair of a Working Group in the Focus Area on “Cultural Heritage” in the European Construction Technical Platform (ECTP).
- Prof. Carlo Terpolilli is an architect and an Associate Professor at the University of Firenze, Faculty of Architecture, where he teaches Technology of Architecture. He is a board member of Ipostudio where he is responsible for the firm’s design activities. His research covers a broad range of issues within the fields of innovation of building technologies and building design methodologies. These activities include: collaboration with research programmes co-ordinated by both public and private, national and international organisations such as the research projects carried out within the University of Florence and Ferrara and the research projects commissioned by the European Commission. He has actively participated in and jointly led several EU research projects from FP5, FP6, FP7: Brite Euram 4213, Ariadne, Brite Euram 4670, IFD, EBOB, SuRE-FIT.
-Dr. Luca Belatti is an architect, graduated at the University of Florence, PhD in "Technology of Architecture" with a research on addition strategy for public residential stock renewal. He has been working in Ipostudio since 2007. He has been involved with Ipostudio in EU related research project SuRE-FIT.
-Dr. Mariagiulia Bennicelli Pasqualis is an architect, graduated at the University of Florence, and PhD student in "Technology of Architecture", with a research on high-density and temporary emergency shelters. She has been working in Ipostudio since 2007.
-Arch. Dania Marzo studied Architectural Design at the University of Florence. After her graduation in 2008, she had some work experiences in Florence and in Berlin in the field of architecture and planning, mainly involving refurbishment and requalification on historical heritage. She has been collaborating with Ipostudio Architetti since 2010.
-Arch. Costanza Quentin is an architect, graduated in Technology of Architecture at the University of Florence in 2013 with a research on a process model for Cohousing in Italy, learning from the German experience of Baugruppen. She has been working in Ipostudio since 2013.
-Arch. Barbara Vanni is an architect, graduated in Structural Architecture Design at the University of Florence in 2011 with a research on structural and functional analysis of hospitals in Italy, focusing on the seismic assessment and the evolution of hospital functions in time. She has been working in Ipostudio since 2012.
-Arch. Agnese Cacciamani is an architect, graduated in Technology of Architecture at the University of Florence in 2012 with a research on temporary and industrialized building technologies applicable for Milan EXPO 2015. She has been working in Ipostudio since 2013.
-Arch. Lucia Celle is an architect, she is a board member of Ipostudio where he is responsible for design activity. Since 2009 she has been the president of Ipostudio srl. Her research covers a broad range of issues within the fields of architectural design of complex buildings in public and private sector. She has held courses as visiting professor in several architectural schools in the field of design methodologies. She has actively participating in and jointly lead several EU research projects IFD, SuRE-FIT and Proficient.
-Arch. Panfilo Cionci is an architect, he has been working at Ipostudio since 1986 and he is one of its technical managers since 2009. He is an expert in design and construction phase. His research covers a broad range of issues within the fields of building design methodologies. He has actively participating in EU research projects IFD and SuRE-FIT.
-Arch. Thorsten Lang graduated as an architect at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, after obtaining a degree in building engineering at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. He has been working as an architect in Italy since 2007. Currently he is a Phd candidate at the University of Ferrara.
- Arch Sergio Leone, is an architect, graduated in Technology of Architecture from the University of Florence with a project of urban interface areas of the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova in Florence. He has been working in the Monitoring Laboratory at the AOU-Careggi since 2011.
- Arch. Ilaria Brogi is an architect, graduated in Technology of Architecture at the University of Florence. Since 2010 she has been working with Ipostudio architects. Currently she's conducting research on the low-cost and industrialized housing technology, applicable in European and African housing developments.
