Benefits

The main benefits of STREAMER are as follows:

a.   New breakthrough by STREAMER for Energy-efficient Buildings (EeB) in the healthcare sector:

·         Net zero-energy districts through an optimal integration between building and neighbourhood systems.

·         Designing energy-efficient new and retrofitted buildings integrated in healthcare districts, based on a comprehensive set of adaptable solutions with pre-validated performance.

b.    New breakthrough by STREAMER in the open interoperability of modelling tools for designing EeB:

·         Holistic lifecycle design that encompasses all scales and all lifecycle phases of the built environment, as well as the whole lifecycle of the information models: BIM, BAM, BEM, BOOM.

·         Holistic design methodology that moves from the classical design approach and the model-based design approach towards the semantics-driven design.

·        Integrated product, process and knowledge modelling for energy-efficient buildings and neighbourhoods that is fully supported by open-source BIM and GIS in a Semantic Web environment.

STREAMER brings forward the most innovative and effective answers to solve the connectivity and interoperability issues between various information models, design and decision-support tools, as well as to close the actual problems of integrating different Levels of Detail (LoD), especially regarding the implementation of IFC and GML for energy analysis. The most effective solutions rely on the smart inter-connectivity between different types of model and data platforms. Therefore, STREAMER innovates  the semantic and geometrical ways for interfacing knowledge, models and tools from the relevant domains.

STREAMER will improve the planning and process modeling methodology in the conceptual design phase of a newly-developed or a retrofitting project by using semantic ontologies based on the knowledge of specialized architects, engineers, equipment operators, building managers and occupants. This will make it possible to plan a complex building or area development project in such a way that achieves the desired improvement in energy performance and lifecycle without negatively affecting the functional/operational processes of the facilities. A suited data model and service based access components are needed to assure all actors in the retrofitting project of easy access to the ontology based process models.
